Making it Easy

If you have tons of stuff to do everyday.  Have a job.  Have kids. Pet owner.  Trying to time manage.

The main thing that always just seems to happen is those late night realizations of what you forgot to buy.  Once you get home and sit down, the last thing you want to do is go to the store.  Sometimes you can't because you are the only adult home and the kids are asleep.

The savior that I found out about were the fine people at this company called Quidsi.  Quidsi, own and operate 6 websites.  These can save you from going insane at midnight when you forget to get dog food or diapers or random things that just escape your brain with other shit going on in your life.

Diapers.com (baby care)
Soap.com (health, beauty and household essentials)
BeautyBar.com (prestige beauty) I can't image anyone reading this will go here...then again...
Wag.com (pet products)
YoYo.com (toys)
Casa.com (Home and houseware essentials)

The prices on these sites are excellent and they usually offer free 2 day delivery.  I order dog food on a Wednesday and it's usually on my front porch the next day.

I'm not sure if this is available in every city, but I should imagine it is.

You will thank me later.

Green Juice

About 6 months ago, I went to visit my friend Will.  Will is always positive, energetic and just the best person you want to see when feeling like you need to just hang with a friend.

Will is a single and a great stay at home Dad.

When I got to his house, the first thing I noticed was how he looked young and had extra energy.   I complemented him on this and he excitedly said "it's this juice"... Now, in my world a good "juice" would be a great strain of weed.  But, this was real juice.  He then said "you want one"?

Well, since that day, I drink 2 large glasses of this a day.  I must say, I feel great all the time and when I don't drink it, I feel shitty.

I thank Will for introducing me to this concoction that keeps me going.   Whether you are a dad or a single guy, this is a great way to start the day.  It takes a total of maybe 5 minutes.

I go organic.  If you are going to do it, might as well avoid the shit they spray on stuff these days.

The Ingredients:

1 cup Fresh Strawberries
1/2 cup of fresh Blueberries
1/2 cup of Pineapple (this could be melon, watermelon, mango or whatever you desire)

1 cup fresh Spinach
6 springs of fresh parsley

1 cup Coconut Water
1/2 cup Orange Juice

1 Tablespoon Flax seed Oil
1 Tablespoon Chia Seed

Make sure you wash everything.  Place it all into a blender that can liquefy all these ingredients.  I bought the Chefscape PBL1000.  It was a little pricey, but I can say, I use it enough to where that's OK with me.

Put them all the ingredients in the blender and hit the button!

  Mix it up

And there you have it.

It makes about 2 large glasses.  I drink the m both back to back.  If they sit too long,
it will get think and kind of gross.  You will be pretty full for the entire morning.
My 2 year old loves it too.

Mars Needs Guitars

I was just driving my kids to a gymnastics class. When we drive, I do my best to try and subliminally drill music into their heads. Anything to avoid and Mommy and me songs.

Today I pulled out Hoodoo Gurus - Mars Needs Guitars. The boys were totally into it, but not as much as me.  If they were a little older, I would embarrass them with my awful singing along to every song.

I love and miss the good old days of bands recording full length albums that were good from beginning to end.

Australia sure knows how to make good albums.  The 80's not so awesome with the videos though.

I Love New York

I had the honor of growing up in NYC.  When I say growing up, I mean, I lived on the east side my entire life.  I went to kindergarten, grammar school, Jr. High, High School and College in New York.

I am a New Yorker.

I live in Los Angeles now.  I have been here for 13 years.  The time has flown by.  I consider myself a New Yorker that lives in Los Angeles.  I like LA.  There are tons of benefits and I have something I never thought I would have.  A house and space.

Being that I have 2 boys now, I would love nothing more than to raise them in the city that made me who I am.  But, New York isn't the city I grew up in anymore.  I don't even know where I could afford to live.  I hope to have them spend a lot of time there when they get older.  New York is in my heart and I would love for my boys to have the same connection to the best city in the world.

I used to go back home minimum of 3 times a year.  Since becoming self employed, It's been 18 months since my last visit.  This is the longest I ever for me.  It's painful.

I recently bought this contraption to crate jpgs from my negatives and slides.  I found many photos, but these 3 stuck out to me.  The view I grew up in was of the Manhattan skyline.  My bedroom view was the World Trade Center.  I looked at these buildings my whole life growing up.  The World Trade Center were my trees in my backyard.  I actually have a palm tree in my back yard now, but those towers were my trees in my urban jungle.

On September 11th, I was in my house in Hollywood.  I have never had more guilt for not being home.  The tragedy that I witnessed on my TV made me feel like empty and so far away.

New Yorkers are the strongest people in the world.

I Love You New York

Gluten and Dairy Free Pizza

My older son is on a Gluten and Dairy free diet.  When we first started this diet back in 2004, I have to tell you.  It sucked.  It was so hard to find food, recipes and anyone giving tips on how to do it.  Today, it's real easy.  The prepared foods are pretty good and it's real easy to make alternatives to meals for kids on the GFCF diet.
I make this pizza that is super easy and easy to buy the ingredients.  Granted, GFCF is a little more expensive, but the benefit is also healthier.
I always found it interesting that if you want to eat well, take car of yourself and support local farms and organic farms, you get punished financially... hmmm... that's a whole other topic.
Anyway, here is the easy 10 minute 3 step process of how to make a pizza.

3 Ingredients

1. Udi's Gluten Free Pizza Crust

2. Mrs. Gooch's Pasta Sauce (plain red sauce) - This is my personal favorite... you can use any kind obviously

3. Daiya Dairy Free Mozzarella Style Sheds (You can use this for quesadillas and anything you want to melt)

1. Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees
2. Take a Pizza crust, pour pasta sauce on it and spread evenly.
3. Cover pizza with Daiya cheese (be generous)
4. Place pizza on top rack and cook for 7 minutes
5. After 7 minutes, put the oven at broil and melt cheese as desired
6. You should be done in 10 minutes
7. Remove and cool.
8. Cut as desired.
9. Eat it up!

Dee Dee Ramone

The Ramones could actually be my favorite band of all time.  I actually can say that I have listened to at least one song by them everyday since I was 12.  My ringtone on my IPhone is Pinhead.

The death of Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny were huge blows to me.  After seeing all their "farewell" tours, there was no reunions coming after that...

I recently finished the book Lobotomy Surviving The Ramones by Dee Dee Ramone and laughed my ass off.  Me and my friend Johnny laugh about quotes and excepts from the book daily.  Trust me, could be the worst written book ever and a really fast read.  Catcher in the Rye, it is not...

Dee Dee was a tragic hero.  He was a great songwriter and even more an amazing character.   The book is filled with stories about his childhood, forming The Ramones, touring, girlfriends, drugs, getting sober, drugs and a great forward by Legs McNeil.  I could do a review, but it's such an easy and interesting read, I would rather just tell you to go buy it on Amazon...

Here are some classic Dee Dee moments, both musically and personality...

Classic Performance in The Living Room of Arturo Vega in 1975

Dee Dee Telling Them How It Is

Warthog - The Song That Everyone wanted to hear after he quit The Ramones

Dee Dee As A Vietnam Vet in Indie Film "What About Me"
-Johnny Thunders Died That Same Day

"I'll take this bottle so I'll Know what to get, defiantly the good brand"

I love this guy.  I used to see him crossing Hollywood Blvd and I would always lower my window  and yell "yo Dee Dee".  He would wave in the air not knowing where it was coming from.

I miss that.

 RIP Dee Dee.

How about them Bears?

Being a stay at home dad, can make you feel a bit feminine.  But, there is nothing wrong with that.  It's the 21st Century... Leave It To Beaver and Father Knows Best are out of date.

This is all good...until.... You get a subscription to magazines like Cooking Light and Real Simple.

I sent a year subscription to my friend Johnny without telling his family.  I think everyone was a little confused when he started getting them.   I know the magazines were popular with his wife's friends... Maybe one day they will make something like this that leans more towards guys...
Nothing says 30 minute recipes more than Cooking Light.  I have pulled so many last minuet meals for the family from this.  It just feels weird when you start to cut out recipes and put them in a folder (Tip from Real Simple).  You can't keep a stack of these around.  They just make a mess.

I know.  It sounds super gay, but you have to trust me...so worth the purchase.  If you ignore the articles about how to "make him love you" and "this springs lip gloss color", you will find some great recipes, household tips and ideas you would never think about.  I love this magazine.  The only embarrassing part is when friends come over, look at it and see my name in the mailing address.  That's cool.  I just say it's Punk
